The Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods’ Camp Odyssey serves youth ages 9-12 for four weeks, five days per week, for up to 9 hours per day (to accommodate working parents). Programming materials include “Summer Brain Gain”, adapted from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This program adds engaging, educational STEM activities to the typical summer camp experience, helping to curtail summer learning loss and inspire a passion for learning. Many of the weekly activities (e.g., arts and crafts, cooking, sports) are based on project-based learning principles and organized teamwork, guided by supportive adult mentors. In addition, field trips are designed to incorporate local natural areas and professionals, along with various laboratories at Humboldt State University. Week long themes for 2019 will include Forestry, Wildlife, Aquatics, and Machinery/Tools.
